Chicken Craftivity and a Special Visitor!

Last week, we learned all about fiction/non-fiction books AND chickens during our shared reading time!   Since we learned SO MANY new chicken facts, we wanted to record them!

On Monday, we did not have specials and sweet Mrs. Bagwell, our reading coach, stopped by for a book and activity!

Sea Turtle Construction...

Miss Hawkins bravely took on paper mache' for our sea turtle!   They've been working diligently each day to construct the body, and begin the process of paper mache'!  Here are a few pictures....

Let's get caught up!

Hello sweet parents and grandparents!   I promised last week that we'd resume regular blog postings this week!   Just when you promise something, something always happens!   We've been SUPER busy and I can't wait to get you all caught up!

Here. We. Go!
During Spring Break, I waited until Tuesday to put our eggs into the incubator (that way they wouldn't hatch on a weekend, when we are not here).   Here are a few pictures of our chicken adventures so far...

It only takes 21 days!!!

We have a chart hanging in our room with a picture of what the chick looks like inside for each of the 21 days.   Each day, we reveal that day's egg and record the results in our Chicken Observation Journal.

This is our incubator with our precious eggs inside!

The eggs are sitting in an egg turner that slowly rotates them.   I am SO very thankful for this wonderful invention!   Before I got one, I had to turn the eggs 4-5x a day!  So I would do three each day and then I'd come back at dinner time and after my kiddos were in bed (for 21 days)! :)   The whole experience is  SO WORTH IT!!!!!

I've hatched for the past three years and I have to say this is one of the most memorable teaching experiences I've ever had!!!!  

We only have 5 more days until hatch day!!!  Stay tuned!

Hi parents!  I am so sorry it's been so long since our last blog posting!   Last week, I was assessing for our kindergarten checklist (report cards) and this week I've been progress monitoring for DIBELS!  Normal blog postings will resume the week after Spring Break! :)

Book Character Day 2014

Read Across America!

We've been having the BEST time during our Read Across America week!  Here are a few pictures...

On Wednesday, we had "Mystery Readers!"  Each child on our hallway signed up to hear a specific book.  They had no idea which teacher was reading!

On Tuesday, Anna Claire's mom stopped by to read The Cat in the Hat to the class!

 

The kids loved it!

In honor of Ten Apples Up On Top we colored and cut out 10 apples and put them in order on top of our head (a picture of our head)!

Each door on our side of the kindergarten hall decided to choose a different Dr. Seuss theme for our decor! We chose Thing 1/Thing 2!  We're quite smitten with how it turned out! :)

Tomorrow I will post our Cat in the hat class picture and pictures of character dress up day! :)
