This is a little combination from last week and this week!
This month, on our morning news we are learning about prominent african americans! Each Tuesday we learn all about one person and then on Friday there is a quiz question. If you know the answer, we can submit it into a drawing for a prize. Last week, Ella answered the question:
"What did Ruby Bridges do as a little girl?"
Here is a picture of the 2nd grade kids surprising Ella with her award!
Way to go Ella!
Last week we worked on Karma Wilson's bear books!
We completed an emergent reader focusing on the sight word "the" using Bear Snores On!
Andrue and Ansley
Tre and Da'Shawn
This week I introduced play dough sight word activity mats.
They loved them!
Bryn and Andrue
Tre and Nellie
They formed the sight word and then traced it!

This week we've been working digraphs during shared reading!
Here is a group of kids working on a bubblegum digraph matching game.
Even though we'd only done /sh/, these friends were working with
/ph/, /wh/, /sh/, /th/, /ch/ and ending digraphs such as:
/-ck/, /-ng/
Last but not least, here are a few friends going through our shared reading book from Monday and highlighting the /sh/ words.
When your child brings this book home, they may not be able to read it independently. It was not for instructional reading, but for skill-based work! :)

I can't wait to post more digraph fun later this week!
Happy Tuesday!
