CWES EXPLORER OF THE WEEK!

Last week, our very own Tanner was the CWES Kindergarten Explorer of the Week!
We are SO PROUD OF YOU TANNER!

If your child wants to be the Explorer of the Week, it is SUPER easy!  All they have to do is make AMAZING choices in the classroom and especially in the hallway.  I can give golden tickets but other teachers really give them out!!!  Once your child gets a golden ticket, they are entered into the drawing for the Explorer of the Week!
Help remind them each morning to make great choices all day!

CWES FAMILY MATH NIGHT!

Hi parents!  In today's planner you will find an invitation to CWES' Family Math Night!  Please, please, please make plans to join us!  There will be lots of opportunities to play math games with your child, make and take math games and activities, etc!

If your child attends, please find me, I will have a math pack to give them!  This will be a second edition of the math pack I gave you at conferences!

I can't wait to see you there!
With my best,

Shall we catch up!?!?!

This is a little combination from last week and this week!

This month, on our morning news we are learning about prominent african americans!  Each Tuesday we learn all about one person and then on Friday there is a quiz question.  If you know the answer, we can submit it into a drawing for a prize.  Last week, Ella answered the question:
"What did Ruby Bridges do as a little girl?"
Here is a picture of the 2nd grade kids surprising Ella with her award!
Way to go Ella!

Last week we worked on Karma Wilson's bear books!
We completed an emergent reader focusing on the sight word "the" using Bear Snores On!

Andrue and Ansley

Tre and Da'Shawn

This week I introduced play dough sight word activity mats.
They loved them!
Bryn and Andrue

Tre and Nellie

They formed the sight word and then traced it!

This week we've been working digraphs during shared reading!
Here is a group of kids working on a bubblegum digraph matching game.
Even though we'd only done /sh/, these friends were working with
/ph/, /wh/, /sh/, /th/, /ch/ and ending digraphs such as:
/-ck/, /-ng/

Last but not least, here are a few friends going through our shared reading book from Monday and highlighting the /sh/ words.
When your child brings this book home, they may not be able to read it independently. It was not for instructional reading, but for skill-based work! :)

Andrue and Ella

Brian

I can't wait to post more digraph fun later this week!
Happy Tuesday!

February 19th Newsletter

I can't seem to upload to the ACS website, so here is last week's newsletter! :)

Valentine Fun!

Hi parents!  Sadly, my camera was out of commission during Valentine's Day week! :(  I missed pictures of our mailboxes, delivering our Valentines and our candy heart graph along with a surprise Valentine graph.  It breaks my heart!
I did get it up and running on Friday the 12th, so I got a few pictures!
Miss Warren worked with small groups to do Valentine Measurement!  They had so much fun using hearts to measure the different pictures!

Ansley and Reynaldo

Tanner and Bryn

Caden and Brian

Virginia and Nellie

Tre and Ava

They loved it!

Vincent and Lucy

During lunch we had a special cupcake to celebrate Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
I hope you enjoyed looking through your child's Valentine boxes and gluing their special cards in the keepsake book!

:)

Hi parents!  This newsletter will be the last posted on the blog.  I am now uploading it to the new ACS webpage!  You will still get a hard copy each week, it just won't be on the blog! :)
Have a great day!

Mardi Gras, a Birthday and Mrs. Linda!

Last week, Mrs. Benson came in to bring us a REAL, New Orleans King Cake!  What a treat!  We learned about Mardi Gras, tasted King Cake and we had real Mardi Gras beads!

Mrs. Benson teaching us all about the parades and floats.

We are so thankful for the Benson family for sharing with us!
{Mrs. Kimbrell has never tasted King Cake before!! It was very good!}

February 6th was Williams BIG DAY!  We were so excited to share in his excitement!
Happy Birthday William!
We love you!

Last, but not least, Mrs. Linda came to read to us.  She read The Velveteen Rabbit!

We loved this story!

With my best,

ACS Dental Clinic!

In honor of Dental Health month, I asked our very own Auburn City Schools Dental Clinic to come by for a visit.  I've seen many dentist office presentations and they are the BEST!
Take a look!

We talked about how important it is to take care of our teeth.
{The friends looking at the door see another special visitor!}

Mighty Molar!!!!

How many times should we brush each day?

TWO!
{At least--it's always better to brush after each meal!}

Mighty Molar shows us how to brush correctly!

Small circles with a toothbrush do the trick!

Make sure to get in the back!

Don't forget the inside!!!

Caden was able to help!

We had time for questions and answers!

We learned how to floss!

Last, but not least, we played a game.
Good food vs. not-so-good food!

We gave a thumbs up for a good food.
A thumbs down for a not-so-good food!

We had the BEST time!  I hope you enjoyed your treat of a toothbrush, toothpaste and a book!
Later this month, I will send home one more toothbrush/paste set from Colgate!
I've learned with 3 kiddos, you can never have too many!

Happy Thursday!
