Morning Exploration Tubs!!

This year I have struggled with having a work job or worksheet for the kids to do when they first arrive in the morning.  Students are able to come in the classroom from 7:15-7:45 and typically come in at different time intervals.  I wanted the kids to be EXCITED about starting our day so morning explorations tubs came about.  I have created 22 shoeboxes with various materials in them.  This first month my focus was on counting and fine motor.  I will change them out each month to keep them fresh.

Take a look...
Pebble letter building

Counting pumpkin seeds with tweezers

Counting puff balls with tweezers

The truth is missing from the picture, but they choose a number, then count out that many "boxes" to put in the back of the truck.

Teddy bear patterns

Apple dot tens frame book

Puzzles

Circus Train Dominoes

Fine motor beads

Building numbers with cubes

Creating words and letters on pipe cleaners

Pattern block pictures

Counting beans to match the pumpkins

Writing

This is how we currently store them.
I've written a new grant for a storage system and new things to go in them...fingers crossed we get it! :)

Here is a video (I emailed to you) showing just how great our Tuesday morning was going!

Circus Train Dominoes

This week, we've learned a NEW math game: Circus Train Dominoes!  The kids LOVE to play it and it can be an independent game or one to play with a partner!  We love it and it is now part of our morning exploration tubs!

AR-rrrrrrrrr Day!

To kick off AR at CWES, we had "Talk Like a Pirate Day!"  The kids had the BEST time in their pirate attire!  Here is a class picture...

Although last Monday was the "technical" starting date for AR, we already started earlier in the month!  The kids are LOVING it and many have already met their goal!  WAY TO GO! :)

Apples, Apples, Apples

For the past two weeks, we've been learning about APPLES!  We've tasted three different types of apples, sampled apple juice and apple cider, learned about the parts of an apple and  talked about adjectives in describing apples!  Take a look...
The overall vote for our favorite was GREEN!

Almost all kids love apple juice, but you should have seen the faces for apple cider!  I had to beg them to at least take a sip! :)  When they did, several liked it!

We used our 5 senses and described our three apples...

Last, but not least, we learned about the parts of an apple..

We love apples! :)
